How To Make a Taketonbo

What you will need --

  1. A piece of bamboo (metric measure 90mm x 15mm x 5mm) ( inch measure 5/8" x 3-5/8" x 3/16"). Clear fir or a hardwod will work.

  2. A sharp knife with a sturdy blade

  3. A skewer stick (you guessed it - bamboo)

  4. A hand or electric powered drill and a drill bit the same size as your skewer stick

  5. Cyanoacrylate glue (one brand name is Super Glue)

  6. Some fun markers or paints, brushes and cleanup tools

Vital Preliminary decision --

Will this taketonbo be for a right handed or left handed person?

Left-handed taketonbos are flown differently and therefore must be built differently than right-handed ones

Basic Construction Steps --

  1. Layout the "blade" or propeller

  2. Drill the hole - this hole should be a snug fit for the skewer stick

  3. Layout the airfoil

This is the most common design since there are more right handed people

  4. Left - hand design click here to get a printable pattern

  5. Cut the airfoil

  6. Check for center

  7. Install the "tail"- the skewer stick

  8. Test for balance
